THE MANUFACTURING INTERVIEW
G rowth does not happen in isolation. And at WEG, engineering does not either, according to Rodrigo Fumo. Having spent almost 25 years at the business, he now leads its Industrial Motors division as Vice President. Rodrigo joined the company as a mechanical engineer after graduating from the Federal University of Santa Catarina and gaining academic experience in Germany.
“ Throughout my career, I have worked in industrial operations, engineering, strategic planning, product development and international leadership, with assignments in China, Austria and the US,” he says.
The opportunity to work across different cultures, technologies and markets is what he feels has shaped him most.
Rodrigo explains:“ Those experiences reinforced my belief that innovation is driven not only by engineering excellence, but also by collaboration, trust and a deep understanding of customer needs.”
What makes WEG? Each year, WEG manufactures more than 19 million motors – an average of more than 50,000 each day. Its Industrial Motor business unit has production sites in 14 countries and more than 17,000 employees. Across the business as a whole, there are more than 49,300 employees, of which more than 5,500 are engineers. In addition to motors, the company makes energy generation and transmission technologies, coatings, varnishes and solutions for automation.
“INNOVATION IS NOT AN OBJECTIVE IN ITSELF – IT IS A DRIVER OF CUSTOMER VALUE, INDUSTRIAL COMPETITIVENESS AND SUSTAINABLE GROWTH”
