T he global industrial sector, dominated by manufacturing, consumes roughly 40 % of all global energy according to the IEA. When looking to cut emissions, this is one of the first places many manufacturers turn to.
Mars aims to reach net zero by 2050, and to do so, it is planning to reach 100 % renewable energy use in its own operations by 2040.“ Renewable energy is one of the most effective tools available to reduce emissions from our operations while supporting long-term business resilience,” explains Kevin Rabinovitch, Mars’ Global VP of Sustainability.
In 2025, renewable electricity accounted for 78 % of the company’ s total electricity sourced across its operations. In the US, it has already achieved 100 % renewable electricity use in its facilities. Kevin says:“ Together with broader operational improvements, these efforts have helped deliver a 42.6 % reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2015.”
