Untapped opportunities " The biggest opportunity is what happens after the product is sold,” Can says. Manufacturing has typically stopped after distribution, but connected products give an opportunity for manufacturers to stay engaged throughout the product’ s lifecycle.“ The appliance stops being a static product and starts becoming a service.”
“ That changes the economics of the business and it changes the relationship with the customer,” he explains.“ The transaction is no longer the end of the relationship. In many ways, it ' s the beginning.”
This continued engagement also creates opportunities for sustainability. Beko’ s connected home platform, for example, can adjust programmes based on usage habits and tell users just how much energy they could save by switching to a more efficient cycle. Customers can also be supported to make the best use of circular design features, with service being scheduled automatically and making use of repairable devices.
